Tenerife South Airport (sometimes also called Tenerife Sur or Reina Sofia) is one of the two international airports located on the popular holiday island of Tenerife. It is busier than the island's other airport, and about 8.6 million passengers pass through its doors each year. Tenerife South is located about 37 miles south of the island's capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. From Santa Cruz, it's easy to get to just about anywhere on the island. The TF-1 motorway connects the airport with the island's capital, and buses serve Santa Cruz, Playa de las Americas, the Tenerife North Airport and other popular destinations. Tenerife has no rail service. From the airport, taxis are available to anywhere on the island including Los Gigantes, Los Cristianos and the other popular resort areas. Several of the major Tenerife car rental companies have counters at Tenerife South, and many of the larger hotels and resorts offer private shuttle service. Driving to the airport is easy; there are almost 900 parking spaces with over half of them offering free parking for 15 minutes or less. The airport's one terminal is well known for being efficient and processing both arriving and departing passengers quickly. An information desk, staffed by multilingual staff is available to help both arriving and departing passengers, and there are special toilets and specially adapted phones make travelling easy for anyone who is mobility impaired. Although almost all the passengers passing through Tenerife South are tourists, the Montana Roja VIP lounge offers basic business and conference facilities.
Tenerife South airport offers plenty of places to eat and drink, including a British style pub, several bars and family themed restaurants and an ice cream parlour. The airport has several ATMs throughout the terminal, as well as a bank offering currency exchange. There are duty free shops located in the departure area of the terminal, as well as the usual selection of souvenir and gift shops, newsagents, florists and book shops.
